IMFC Safe Halloween Event
WINNIPEG - Many parents in the North End are choosing not to hand out candy or allow their kids to trick-or-treat door-to-door on halloween in the wake of the violence that is happening in our citys north end. In response, the Indian and Metis Friendship Centre (IMFC) at 45 Robinson Street (at Dufferin Avenue) is hosting a safe, indoor Halloween event on Monday October 31st from 5-7 p.m.
The IMFC will be hosting "SAFE HALLOWEEN 2011", providing grab bags and activities for the kids to come out and enjoy their Halloween without the worry of the potential violence in the area.
The centre is accepting donations of candy or any other Halloween related materials. If you would like to volunteer to come hand out candy or if you would like to make a donation, please call Tracy Liske or Melissa Hollands at (204) 586-8441 (see the CTV news coverage link below for more details)

Mary Richard Memorial Park

The IMFC would like to recognize and celebrate the life and achievements of Mary Richard. We plan on doing this by the development of a cultural and community park. The IMFC is in the process of attaining ownership of the park located on Dufferin Avenue immediately to the East of the IMFC (currently the Kiwanas Tol Lot Park). The Mary Richard Memorial Park would provide the community with an appropriate space to conduct cultural and traditional teachings and celebrations. The park will also allow the community members a place to meet and relax in a beautiful landscaped park. The new park will be maintained and cared for by the IMFC and community youth. A large green space will be available to the community as well. I would like to thank City Councillor Ross Eadie for all the support and hard work he has put in to making this project possible.

Some of you may have notice that 8 x 20 foot Jackson Beardy painting is no longer in the hall. This is due to severe mold and water damage that the painting has suffered over the years. Prior to the IMFC roof being replaced, the south wall leaked behind the painting causing the damage. The painting is now in storage and we are looking into possible ways of restoration. Cost estimates have ranged from $30,000.00 to $60,000.00.
